Cash for Generators!

January 24, 2009 · 1 Comment

Last night’s event (23/01/09) raised £3,800 which far exceeded our objective of £2,489 - which buys a generator that can help power a Gazan hospital or clinic.

We also had a lot of fun! The bands were great! The speeches were informative and the poetry was emotional and inspiring. It was a great example of the power of art and music to raise awareness and bring people together. After 40 years the politicians are still failing to find a lasting solution to the Isarel / Palestine Conflict. Maybe it’s time to let the Artists try?

Artist for Gaza would like to thank:

EVERYONE who attended, donated, performed and helped to organize this event. And all those who gave their time to make it a success!

Special Thanks to:
Poets/Speakers: Nigel Osbourne, Ghazi Hussein, Douglas Robertson, Kamran,
Bands: Orkestra del Sol, Black Cat, Nuala, Rhythm Nation, Gol, Voces Del Sur and Sharon King
Visuals: Mettje, and DJ: Jem
Food: The Edinburgh Mosque, Empires, Kebab Mahal, El Falafel, Suzies Diner.
The Organisers who gave their time and resources to manifest the event
The Volunteers on the night who came together to help make the event run so smoothly.

Last night was a strong beginning for the group  ” Artists for Gaza “. We hope to see it lead to many more events and actions in support of this cause. We cannot forget about this conflict even though it may slip from the headlines. Please keep in touch with us, join our mailing list, and inspire us with new ideas of actions that will make a difference. Our next campaign is to develop the theme of twinning Edinburgh with Gaza, watch this space for new developments.

Also we have discovered our Egyptian Counterparts :    http://fustat.blogspot.com/2009/01/cairo-artists-for-gaza.html !!!

Let’s keep it growing!
